SNOWFALL IDENT SPEC ■ MOTION DESIGN

SNOW FALL IDENT CONCEPT

CHALLENGE

Create a mock-up sequence of TV Ident designs for a known TV series “Snowfall,” on the FX network. Present themes and visuals exploring the rise and fall of the 1980’s crack cocaine era.

ROLE: Motion Designer

TOOLS: Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects

PROCESS

Brainstormed ideas and themes using TV Idents from past seasons. Incorporated live action footage elements to bring a level of rawness and real-life drama associated with the destruction of communities, as a result of the crack cocaine epidemic. I create these 3 Idents to represent the story arc of the series. The first video shows the “Snow Fall,” logo with live video of crack cocaine being made. The second video shows bars of gold plates falling, as metaphor for how much money is being made and eventually loss selling crack/cocaine. The third video shows flames going up and falling due to the demise and fall of the crack/cocaine empire that the main character had built.

RESULTS

This project was developed as part of a group of Motion Designer under guidance of Creative Director, Cameron—founder of the Motion Science program. The project was well received. I took feedback that resulted in more dynamic visuals, and better animation timing of these 10 second Idents spots.
